You were correct about the second hand board failing to start, only the small fan lit up when connected to the mains—nothing else! That’s a big no for budget builds. But I’ll never go back to buying used again!
I tested the CPU on a friend’s machine today and it’s functioning properly, so the issue must lie with the motherboard or power supply.
I’ve purchased a new CPU now because I need a quicker system for graphics work—specifically the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X—and just need the rest to assemble a fresh build.
To completely eliminate doubts about the power supply, I’ll replace it and either keep the old one as a spare or buy a budget board for the Ryzen 7 processor, possibly getting a second PC. Alternatively, if I can fix the current board, I’d consider using an MSI X570-A Pro at least to avoid messing up my existing settings.
Could you advise on the best or fastest motherboard to pair with this processor? Or should I just opt for another MSI X570-A Pro? At the very least, it should not interfere with any of my current configurations.
Also, since your power supply isn’t great, do you recommend a specific brand or model?
And to stay within budget, would your memory and graphics card still work with this setup?

Hello, I’m thinking about upgrading to a newer GPU but, out of urgency, I’m considering the same board again—MSI x570-a pro. However, I’ve found reports suggesting it might not handle an AMD Ryzen 9 5950x well, especially its VRM setup. I’m still waiting to install it and am now searching for a better option. It seems B550 boards are generally harder to locate, which is puzzling since B550s are easy to find. Because of this, I’m exploring B550 boards to pair with my new CPU.
I’m really unsure what the best choice should be, and whether using a B550 board would still work well with the MSI x570-a pro? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

the build quality underneath might be average at best.
they generally have a lower standard in this regard.
their "Pro" line tends to be of lesser quality compared to other lines such as "MPG".
i've noticed some people complimenting their MAG Tomahawk X570.
certain B550 models are also considered higher quality, though some are not.
when browsing online retailers for X570 boards, don't restrict yourself to one manufacturer.
brands like AsRock and ASUS offer a range of good options.
i would steer clear of ASUS due to concerns about their control software, although they still make excellent hardware.
I checked various suppliers, but it appears the X570 is nearly outdated in this market. The B550 models are easily accessible, which seems to be the current situation in the UK.
Also, Asus appears to be the primary distributor.
Would you prefer an MSI Tomahawk B550 instead?
I found a link to a MSI Mag B550 motherboard on Amazon.
Are you considering the X570-A Pro or another alternative?
