hey everyone i used a gtx 1070 with an i5 8600k and didn't run into problems with crew 2. however, when i upgraded to a 9600kf and a 2070, i started experiencing random freezes lasting about 1-2 seconds during races, but no known issues with freerome builds. any advice would be really appreciated.

Well, 85c isn't the best choice. A 65c range would be more suitable during gaming, especially with good airflow and cooling. The 9600k can handle up to 100c, so it shouldn't throttle at 85c. Regarding the GPU, percentages are just estimates—you should check the actual temperature while gaming. Use MSI Afterburner for real-time monitoring. Nvidia says a 2070 can safely run up to 89c, but above that it will slow down.

Have you verified the CPU temperatures? The 9000 series tends to get significantly hotter than the 8000 series, which might cause thermal throttling if the temps are too high. What cooler and case are you using?
Additionally, it's important to confirm that your GPU drivers are up to date. You should also consider updating the MB BIOS, especially if you're using the same one as with the 8600, to ensure compatibility with the 9600.

I checked and the CPU temperature was 85, GPU at 50%, and RAM usage was between 30-40%. The RAM appears to be around 16GB at 2500 MHz. But I’m not sure it’s stable anymore compared to older systems.
