The Crew Beta Thoughts
The Crew Beta Thoughts
For a beta version it's not bad, extremely refined. They should finalize the settings so FPS limits stay visible. Unlocking additional control options would improve the experience, especially for the voice system which needs stronger integration. Physics adjustments are needed but they're close to being achievable—after testing all three settings, the performance felt quite realistic. Hardcore was satisfying when the car maintained steady speed. The main issues are the sudden leveling and the bouncing when hitting obstacles. The car levels out too quickly, making it feel unnatural. The obstacles seem well-designed, with the map covering around 5000 square kilometers (just under 2,000 square miles). I'm excited for the game and eager to explore it with friends.
If they improve the driving experience, I’m likely to consider purchasing it. At the moment it feels quite stiff and unresponsive. The ability to personalize your vehicle is already a strong selling point. After all, developers seem to have stopped offering extensive car customization options in recent games.
It's a joke? The PC offers the most lifelike racing games available.
It’s best not to discuss your thoughts on the game until Ubisoft gives you permission, since being part of the beta means you accepted their terms. EDIT: Ignore this remark—TC correctly noted that no NDA remains for the beta. Edited July 24, 2014 by killtothis
generic approach, every vehicle looks identical which is a clever twist! You're not great at racing games, so keep focusing on your own successful series!
No issues at all. I was a bit hesitant before sharing this and the video until I saw the tweet. I managed a smooth 90-minute session without any problems. There was a minor patch around 10pm in Europe, which helped resolve some bugs. Regarding the cars, I haven’t tested any beyond the four initially and a few missions. It’s around Level 6 at this point, but I’m aiming for 10 and hopefully NYC before the beta ends. I appreciate how terrain affects the friving—expected, but well done. The Skills races are mostly tough with steering. If anyone wants specific footage, just let me know.
For me, this game resembles Test Drive Unlimited 2 quite a bit. The way the physics work during driving definitely matches, but I believe they could be enhanced.
