Sleette:
I'm increasing the overclock of an i7-3770K on an ASUS Sabertooth Z77 board. I've set it to 45x multiplier and adjusted the voltage with offset, which keeps it running smoothly without crashes but always at full speed. I've turned on Speedstep in BIOS and used the balanced power profile in Windows. It seems I need to check something else to make sure the CPU slows down when not in use. You can right-click the Start button (Win icon at the bottom left), go to Power Options, find your plan, then click Change Plan Settings. Next, select Change Advanced Power settings. Please confirm that Minimum Processor State is 0% and Maximum Processor State is 100%. If not, adjust them and save the changes.
Thank you for the response. The min/max remained at 5%/100%, but I adjusted it to 0%/100%, which didn't affect the outcome.
