Hey there, fellow tech enthusiasts. I'm setting up my first server and need some advice on the display setup. I'm considering a 1U8S2E-ROME/2T model (https://www.asrockrack.com/general/produ...ifications). It has a VGA port on the motherboard. I want to install an AMD EPYC 7302 CPU, which doesn't include built-in graphics, and I see that none of the EPYC 7XX2 series models come with integrated graphics. If I connect a monitor via the VGA port, will it actually display anything? Or would nothing happen? We're not planning to add a GPU here, and we'll use PCIe for the RAID card. Thanks!

Server motherboards typically come with their own built-in iGPU on the board, not the CPU. They only handle 2D tasks and aren't very useful beyond basic console output, which is usually enough for this type of server.

Server boards typically come with a very simple graphics card built-in, allowing you to at least observe the machine starting up. They're also linked to the built-in IPMI system, enabling you to view the monitor contents and manage the server via a web-based KVM interface.

specs are somewhat unclear here, but because it has a dedicated IPMI port, it’s likely equipped with an IPMI system onboard, which typically includes a simple graphics display feature.

It is managed by the AST2500 controller, offering on-site video output. RTFM wins once more.
