The CPU isn't functioning properly after the update.
Hello. I'm using an i5 6600k with a watercooled system on an OC of 4.4k, running at 1.310 volts and max temperature around 65°C. Recently, I increased the voltage to 4.5k but it kept crashing repeatedly. At 1.380 volts it still crashed, so I returned to 4.4k at 1.310 volts. Now even at 4.4k my CPU is unstable, overheating to about 73°C during games. I've reset the BIOS settings but nothing works. Eventually, I set it back to the stock 3.5k frequency and it's now stable, even achieving higher FPS than when it was at 4.4k. Can anyone explain how the CPU performs better at stock speeds and why it was unstable at that setting?
Did you really confirm the OC's stability at 4.4GHz? If yes, what methods did you use? 4.4GHz sits about 500MHz above the standard boost frequency, which is quite stable—likely just a minor voltage tweak was needed. In the end, an inconsistent OC won't deliver reliable performance, and a slower but steady stock clock can still provide improvements. This isn't uncommon.
