The Corsair CX650M appears to be malfunctioning.
Yesterday while using my PC, it suddenly turned off. After restarting twice, I got an error code 41 but no further issues. Today it started up and ran for about five minutes before shutting down again. It only displayed yellow lights now, with occasional transitions to red and then back to yellow. I assumed the RAM was faulty, but after rechecking, swapping parts and testing individually, it seems unlikely. I disassembled the system and didn’t find any obvious faults. I’m considering the power supply as the likely cause. I tried different power outlets and cables, but they all failed the same test. A short in the fan movement area might be responsible. I’m unsure if Corsair’s zero-rpm mode is relevant here, but it doesn’t seem to apply. I’m hoping someone can help me figure this out.
The PSU includes a Zero-FAN feature. To verify its functionality, you need to apply some load—such as connecting a Molex connected fan.
It seems there isn’t sufficient power to warm it up, which is why the PSU fan is turning on.
But the Molex connected fan would spin. This often indicates the PSU is functioning properly. The next phase involves a budget PSU tester featuring LEDs, progressing to a more advanced model with voltage readings, and eventually sophisticated testers equipped with oscilloscopes.
When you don’t have a GPU, you can still inspect voltages with hwInfo. Probably the power supply is faulty.
