The computer's display shuts down unexpectedly, requiring a restart to resolve the issue
I face an odd issue. Occasionally, while playing games, the display on my PC fails to connect with the GPU and the fans begin spinning rapidly. This seems strange since the system stays on and I can still use it—playing music or chatting on Discord works fine. After about 30 seconds, it usually shuts down completely. I've tried several solutions: switching to different monitors or cables, reinstalling NVIDIA drivers (and Gigabyte), using DDU, verifying Windows integrity, updating BIOS, ensuring the GPU is properly connected, and even formatting the SSD for a fresh install. None of these resolved the problem.
I also experienced three monitor blackouts during installation, which wasn't very pleasant. The issue tends to appear suddenly in certain games—like RDR2 after completing a mission—but resets when I restart. Other problematic titles include Satisfactory, Baldur's Gate 3, and Windows installations. Interestingly, with Satisfactory the GPU temperature stays high (81-82°C), whereas games like Fortnite don’t cause issues even on less powerful systems. It seems the problem isn't related to storage type but rather to specific applications or hardware connections.
My PC has been running this GPU for over a year without any issues before, even with other AAA titles such as RE4 remaster or Elden Ring. I’m seeking advice on possible fixes or checks that might help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I recommend checking the GPU by using it on another machine. If you don’t have extra, borrow a friend’s PC. Try pairing your spare GPU with their setup as well. The temperature is around 82 degrees, which is acceptable but keep an eye on it. At 85 degrees it will start throttling, so lowering it would be wise. Your RAM shows a mix of speed and latency—ideally all should match in timing, voltage, and performance.
I'm sure to give it a shot. I'll let you know what happens! Regarding the RAM, it isn't the best match, but it's functioning properly for years, so it doesn't seem to be the main issue.
After testing my GPU in my brother's system... it functions properly, though it remains warm and the display stays on. With his RTX 2070 installed, the setup also works well. Consider exploring further adjustments or alternatives if needed. Right now, I'm using a less-than-ideal configuration but it's functional.
