Hello, I built my PC during the pandemic using a 6800XT with a 5600X processor and 16GB DDR4 RAM at 3600MHz. I’m experiencing some problems lately. The main issues are: 1. My PC would shut down unexpectedly, but after re-seating the CPU and applying new thermal paste, it works fine. 2. It randomly powers off without any error or BSOD, sometimes even showing overheating warnings. This can happen multiple times in a row and also occurs during games. 3. When I turn it on, the display appears distorted and discolored (see attached pictures). I’ve tried different cable types for the monitor, but it still happens randomly. It always resolves by disconnecting power and the display cord for about 10 seconds. I’m curious if these problems are connected. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
This situation doesn't always occur. It can depend on whether the system is under load or idle. Graphical glitches are often linked to GPU memory, but thermal paste application may help with temperature stability. Make sure CPU temperature settings are configured correctly in BIOS. Keep an eye on GPU temperatures as well—some models like the 6800XT have vapor chamber concerns. A faulty card could be the cause. Running HWinfo can show real-time temperatures and help identify if they exceed safe limits for your CPU. BSODs usually point to hardware problems, so CPUID HWmonitor can assist in checking. It happens mostly in games, but not always. I’ve also tried HWmonitor and everything looks normal. At first, the overheating was because the CPU bottom sticker wasn’t fully removed (it was kind of amusing when I figured it out). Do you know if there’s a way to save logs that capture error details after the PC restarts?
Open event viewer, then go to Windows logs, select system. Apply filters for error and critical only. List entries in chronological order by time. Capture the screen and share it here.
I've experienced that BSOD screen multiple times before. The first person thought it might be related to storage issues, the second suggested using DDU to reinstall GPU drivers, and the third mentioned corrupted files from the WiFi card but didn't respond about a fix.
