Good afternoon, my problem involves frequent black screens while gaming, but I can still hear the game and chat with friends on Discord. In Crusader Kings 3, events seem to work smoothly within five minutes, yet multiplayer in Warhammer Total War 3 behaves unpredictably. Only a full reset seems to restore normal gameplay. I've tried several fixes: boosting the PSU from 850W to 1500W, swapping RAM to 2x16GB DDR4 at higher speeds, installing new fans with better airflow, using a Cooler Master 1800RPM fan paired with Noctua 3000rpm industrial fans, and even replacing the GPU's back plate. The repair shop inspected everything, checked drivers, and found no obvious issues. They noted the CPU fan isn't running and that my GPU lacks a back plate, though temperatures were normal. My system specs are: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, MEG X570 motherboard, Vengeance RGB RT DDR4 16GB, GeForce RTX 3090, 4TB HDD, M2SSD, and Corsair HX1500i PSU. Despite these changes, the issue persists.
I’ll assume a particular problem with your RTX 3090 or consider the situation where you have a 4600MT/sec RAM setup on a 5950x socket. That’s far beyond typical performance limits for most Ryzen 5000 series CPUs, especially after reaching 3600MHz, where you’re manipulating the FCLK and MCLK. I’d need to explore more creative solutions than just enabling XMP disabled, setting speeds to 3200MT/sec or 3600MT/sec. The best approach is to reduce the maximum TDP% to around 80% initially. If it crashes, try using ctrl+shift+win+b to refresh the GPU drivers—it will emit a beep when done correctly.
Update the newest bios. Add XMP (DOCP) settings and set RAM to 3600 manually. Re-test.
I lowered the power to 80% as recommended, I think (refer to the picture), started the game and it seems to function... At least it didn’t crash during a 30-minute test which was previously unfeasible. What might this suggest? Could it be related to my graphics card missing its back plate? Also updated to the newest BIOS, used the BIOS to activate XMP 1. Reinstalled my previous RAM and reset the clock to 3600 MHz, plus changed the chipset fan since it was only configured to activate at 70°C. I reduced the temperature to 55°C and increased the speed at 70°C.
