Hello, I recently installed a new computer about a year ago. It features a 5900x and 7900xtx GPU. I’m still running Windows 10. My power supply is a Seasonic 1000 W Titanium model. I have two NVMe drives and three to four SATA SSDs (one of which is from an older system). There are three front-mounted fans, one rear exhaust fan, and a tower CPU fan with two additional fans and fins. I also have three monitors and speakers. All of these components are connected to the same power strip. The room is small, so temperatures can rise, but the system reports temperatures within acceptable limits.
My main concern is occasional random freezing of the screen. It happens regardless of activity—whether I’m gaming, browsing, or even just watching videos. Sometimes it lasts a few minutes, sometimes only a couple of seconds. There’s no warning light or flashing, but the mouse stops responding and the time on the computer doesn’t sync with my phone. Even when background music plays, the game continues, but the gun sounds stop abruptly. I’ve noticed this with an older 5700xt GPU too, though it didn’t have the same problem.
I’ve checked my GPU drivers and software, updated my GPU driver, and confirmed that CPU and GPU aren’t overclocked. The issue persists despite these steps. I spoke to some tech-savvy friends, but they couldn’t help either. It seems the problem might be intermittent and not tied to a specific trigger.
What could be causing this?
Have you experimented with the ctrl+shift+win+b shortcut to restart the video driver during operation? I've observed this pattern repeatedly, often requiring various fixes. Identifying specific signs or fixes would be more helpful than listing many possibilities. Also, examine the Event Viewer and application logs—you should notice "an unexpected shutdown has occurred" related to a forced stop, possibly preceded by error or warning messages indicating the issue.
I also attempted it. A YouTube clip mentioned a hotkey to restart the driver, but it didn't work when I tried yesterday or today. I tested pressing the buttons in different sequences, even at the same time.
Reviewed the system logs and found the event log indicating an unexpected shutdown. No prior warning signs detected. Consider alternative explanations.
It's been a problem for some time now. I don't recall it starting right away, but having an old GPU and a new one doesn't help. A technician checked my computer—Memtest 86 passed, stress test on CPU and GPU lasted 12 hours each, and everything was fine for 5 hours. It happened while I was using Chrome or gaming. Could this be the cause (I saw it in Event Viewer)? The authority "amd-keyid-907d65e9b562315997dd5ad086b2b7598957b92c.microsoftaik.azure.net" isn't recognized. Should I just reinstall Windows completely? Would that solve it?
It seems either your power is weak or there might be an issue with one of your peripherals.
