I was mid-stream when my PC rebooted by itself. It happened last week too. After it came back, it kept freezing and restarting whenever I opened OBS, Chrome, or even went into Event Viewer to check what was going on. During those crashes, the 2 Seagate 4TB drives stopped appearing in my drive list. Plus, sometimes it would attempt a recovery, which ended in a BSOD before another restart. Luckily, my M.2 drive is functioning fine. Most of my software is stored there. I'm stuck trying to figure out if the problem is software-related or hardware issues. When I open the tower, I might add more details about the motherboard setup later. This is the same PC I built myself—just kept it clean with regular dusting and cleaning.
Initially I thought the 4TB storage device was failing, which led to the issue. However, your complete operating system is running on the NVMe drive, isn't it? Edited July 29, 2024 by leclod
I mentioned this earlier, here are the initial photos of my setup. My rig can hold around five drives. I chose the lower two bays because they’re simpler to remove and work without tools. I’m just trying to rule out the PSU as a cause, since that could lead to more problems like a motherboard short or other issues. Still, I’m taking it one step at a time. The drives are out and tested—both failed to recognize me when I used my tester. It seems I have a device that turns the hard drives into temporary external ones so I can extract data.
It managed to start up normally for a short time, but while reviewing the logs it caused my screen to go dark and then restart. This is quite puzzling. Right now it keeps restarting, and the most recent recovery attempt ended with a BSOD during the process.
I understand this was the troubleshooting phase, though it triggered a BSOD. It didn’t run long enough for me to capture a photo. If the DVD drive works again—probably the SATA cable needs swapping—I’ll attempt a clean installation.
I purchased a new M.2 drive for the operating system, but won’t be available until Tuesday or later. I chose the WD Black series model and also bought a 2TB drive for data storage. I’m trying to get my mechanical drives functional on the OS side so I can move data onto the new drive before replacing the old ones and setting them as RAID 1 instead of RAID 0. Still can’t figure out why the DVD drive isn’t appearing in the BIOS after swapping the cable.
