Urgent situation. Setting up a PC for a friend requires a basic workstation, not a gaming rig. I'm aiming to cut costs and reuse the old case and power supply he already has. Everything is connected, but I noticed his PS doesn't have the extra CPU 4-pin connector needed for the motherboard. It's a half-modular unit, and I connected an extra EVGA CPU cable. The PC still won't power on. The motherboard is receiving power and the lights are on, but nothing happens—no fan spinning, no noise, just the power cords plugged in. My thought is he probably needs a newer, updated PSU. I tried manually starting it around the button, but still nothing. I'm worried he might need a new one before the weekend, since local stores are out of stock.
The system should operate without it but with reduced consumption. Do you have another power supply to try? If you received the new refund, would you like to purchase another one?
Avoid combining modular cables. That could have damaged the board.
It's incorrect. You can use an 8-pin AUX with a 4-pin connector, but you cannot power either 8 or 4-pin AUX without any connections.
