I need assistance with a gaming PC that’s been acting up lately. I built it in 2021 during the GPU shortage, so I installed a budget graphics card. After updating the driver, it worked until I restarted. Then it would freeze on boot or jump into winRE, though I could see BIOS but not safe mode. I cleared everything and tried again, but the power button didn’t work. The motherboard lights are on, but no error indicators appear. I’ve used this system sporadically for a few years now. What should I do?

Wait... it doesn’t shut off or activate properly when you press the power button. When you try to turn it on, do any fans spin? Some ASUS boards keep certain RGB lights on even when powered down, which limits what we can see. Have you attempted to power the PC by connecting the power switch pins directly to ground?

Did you verify that the physical buttons on your PC are intact and securely attached to the motherboard? It’s possible the connections at the front of your case might have slipped out.

Nothing seems to be happening at all. I'm a bit concerned about attempting to short circuits since I don't want to cause any lasting damage. The lights suggest the microcontroller is still receiving power. All the components at the front are functioning properly.
