I'm using my current setup: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz with 6 cores, an MSI PRO B550M-VC Wi-Fi Micro ATX AM4 board (BIOS 7C95vHD1, updated May 9, 2024), Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB DDR4-3600 CL18, Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM HDD, PNY CS900 500 GB SSD, Western Digital Black SN770 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVMe SSD, XFX Speedster SWFT 210 Core Radeon RX 6650 XT 8 GB video card, NZXT H6 Flow ATX mid tower case, and an EVGA 600 W1 600 W 80+ certified power supply.

I've been running smoothly for two years. Recently, I upgraded a drive in my child's computer and replaced an Intel 660p 512 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVMe SSD. Since there was an extra M.2 slot, I considered using it. After installing the new drive, my system stopped booting. I removed the partition and reformatted it. The PNY drive that was used as a boot drive was also deleted and reformatted after backing up all personal files. I attempted to reinstall Win11 on both drives, but it would stop during an update. This machine has never behaved this way before.

When I power on, it seems the system doesn't recognize which drive to start from, even though the BIOS is fully updated and points to the PNY drive. I'm reaching out for assistance.

Alright, I reset the CMOS, cleared all drives, reinserted the RAM and verified all connections. The device powered on and started the installation smoothly. It appears stable, and I'm currently typing on it. So far, I've reinstalled my gaming NVME and added a few games from Steam to try later. I'll gradually restore everything and monitor progress. Tomorrow I plan to order the Corsair RM750e when I have time.

I attempted to reinstall Win11 on both drives, and after installation it would halt during an update. This unusual behavior has never occurred before. Disconnect all drives except the one you want to install the OS on and check if progress is made. Have you recreated the bootable USB installer?

I upgraded to 7C95vHD1 (09/05/2024) to test if it would help. All drives are disconnected except for the target disk, and I used the media creator tool to create a bootable USB for installation. I understand the power supply is on the lower end, but it’s the only remaining part from my previous upgrade and will be replaced soon.

I mistakenly thought about recreating the installation USB, but I’m now doing that on another USB drive.

I attempted to reinstall with a different USB drive and near the final step, the display simply turned off and all functions ceased. I also tried restarting it, but it remained unresponsive.

PSU is quite problematic.
Try removing the CMOS battery and then reinserting it after a while. Adjust the RAM speed to 3200.
Based on my experience, MSI boards often face RAM conflicts.

IME, avoid any overclocks during BIOS and clean installations. Reset CMOS and proceed. Ensure the system boots and runs smoothly before thinking about XMP/EXPO/OC settings.

Alright, I reset CMOS, removed all drives, reseated the RAM and checked all cable connections. Turned it on and it booted and continued the installation. It seems stable and I'm typing this on it. At this point, I've put my gaming NVME back in and reinstalled a couple games from Steam to try later. I'll just slowly add stuff back in and keep an eye on it. I'm going to be ordering the Corsair RM750e tomorrow when I get a chance.
