I’m facing a nearly identical issue as the person in this message. I responded to the post, but since it’s quite old, no one has replied. The main difference is I haven’t altered any hardware on my PC. I also can’t locate the UEFI/CSM settings they used. On Monday morning, I opened my PC in BIOS and saw a CPU overheating alert. It turned out a cable was blocking the fan, which has been resolved. I’m still puzzled about why my BIOS thinks all drives are connected and working, yet it doesn’t recognize one with Windows installed. If needed, I can reinstall Windows, but I’d rather avoid that if possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Couple of notes for reference. Is this a new installation or an existing one with some runtime? Any recent software updates or changes? The CPU overheating is usually a sign of damage—possibly a failing CPU or board. Updated April 20, 2022 by An0maly_76, additional details added.
I'm worried about potential hardware problems because I need my operating system to function correctly to check for issues. The system was set up about a year and a half ago and has remained stable so far. There haven't been any software updates recently, and my wife mainly uses it for gaming and writing.
Thank you for the idea. I successfully booted Ubuntu from a flash drive, and everything appeared to function properly. I could view both drives and their installed files. Here are some images showing what I saw in the BIOS menus.

I chose to replace Windows by reinstalling it, hoping it would fix things fast. The main issue was that the CD install couldn’t place it on my C drive or format the disk. When I tried Ubuntu again, the same problem persisted. Even Gparted failed, which made sense since it’s typically the best tool for this kind of task (though I’m still new to Linux). Eventually, I realized the drive was corrupted and beyond repair, so I bought a replacement from Amazon and installed it tonight. Everything is now functioning properly. Thanks for your assistance!
