I'm assisting a friend in troubleshooting an old laptop from about a decade ago. When launching games like GTA Vice City, it functions normally for about five minutes before freezing with a persistent buzzing noise from the speakers and eventually becoming unresponsive. Generally, the game runs smoothly at around 30 frames per second.

The machine's specs include an Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 processor (upgraded from a T5750), an onboard Intel 965 chipset, 3GB of DDR2 RAM, and a WD Caviar 320GB HDD. While the setup isn't ideal, it holds sentimental value for my friend, so I'm doing my best to help resolve this issue.

I've run memtest86 (believing it's version 4.7 since the laptop doesn't support newer UEFI versions) and it showed no errors after several runs. This leads me to suspect heat-related problems, as the device gets quite hot during operation and the fan doesn't seem to increase properly.

I'm running out of options and consulting forums for potential solutions. Please let me know if you need any further details. Thanks!

please ensure you have the service manual or a YouTube video to disassemble it.
keep a record of every screw or use your smartphone camera before and after assembly.
don’t forget to note each screw.
avoid applying force to the plastic—it may crack due to heat damage.
if the device is hot and the fan is making noise, remove the CPU fan assembly and clear dust from the fins.
then apply Arctic Silver and alcohol to clean the heat sink, remove any residue, and reapply paste.
while doing so, use a brush to eliminate all visible dust.

don’t miss any screws.
avoid applying force to the plastic, as the old one may crack due to heat damage.

then purchase Arctic Silver and alcohol to clean the heat sink thoroughly, removing all residue and reapplying the paste.
while doing so, use a brush to eliminate any remaining dust.
