Some games function well in the browser, but once the game is closed, the system becomes unstable. Tabs may take a moment to open or close, and Windows often responds slowly to options like the task manager. When checking the task manager, CPU, memory,<|pad|>’s disk usage show no unusual activity after the game ends. Restarting resolves the problem, hinting at a caching, memory, or disk-related issue. Diagnosing the cause remains challenging.
System details:
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, Version 10.0.19041
- Hardware: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, x64 PC, Micro-Star International Co., Ltd.
- BIOS: American Megatrends Inc., version A.60, dated 27/12/2018
- Memory: 16 GB RAM, 15.9 GB total, 12 GB available
- Storage: HDD and SSD usage remain idle post-game closure
- Security: Secure Boot disabled, Hyper-V extensions enabled
Potential causes include caching, memory, or disk problems. A reboot often fixes the issue.
You might want to attempt a simple repair for the Windows image via automated healthrestore. It could be unrelated to your issue, but give it a shot. Windows 10 is known for its frequent problems.
In the task manager, select 'File' and then choose 'Run a new task'. Type 'cmd' in the bar and ensure the box labeled 'Create this task with administrative privileges' is checked, then press enter.
Next, type the command 'DISM/online/cleanup-image/restorehealth/' and hit enter. Once the process finishes completely, close any running windows and restart your computer.
Identify which games trigger the twitchiness. Compare them to games other than Warhammer to see what doesn’t cause it. Use Resource Monitor and Task Manager to analyze system usage, resource consumption percentages, and resource consumers in each scenario. Examine the Startup tab in Task Manager for unfamiliar processes that might be contributing.
I've recorded this after playing WH II, HOI 4, FIFA 20, Company of Heroes 2, Project Cars 2, WH: Vermintide 2. I plan to try others but these are my favorites, so it might be related to GPU-heavy games. I'll proceed and update you.
Before and after in TM are identical. The only variable that changes from near zero usage is Ethernet.
Most games use cloud sync for certain files once you close them. This process can be demanding, as it requires uploading and syncing the file to the cloud, which may slow down your machine temporarily. My suggestion is to wait for your computer to have time after you close the game and/or look into basic troubleshooting steps for cloud sync on your chosen platform, such as Steam. If you suspect a problem with your machine, you can run a hard drive diagnostic using the command prompt.
The slowdown continues, which means I can't detect syncing through the cloud, and Eth traffic remains low most of the time.
I've tested disk utilities on each drive without encountering any issues.
