Your Chromecast is showing a generic message about checking the internet, even though your room has free Wi-Fi. Try connecting directly to the hotel’s network using the official app or settings, and ensure your device is compatible with the captive portal. If needed, contact the hotel’s IT support for assistance.

It's merely a controlled gateway I've linked my device to.

Chromecast cannot handle captive portal rules. Alternatives exist though. See the links for more details.

At hotels I typically link my laptop to the available network and turn on HotSpot on the device, then connect everything through it. Even though the hotel connection is usually unstable, mobile data tends to work more reliably, so I often switch to using my phone as a hotspot instead.
