Hey, I checked the main quest in Final Fantasy XV and it doesn’t seem to have a strict timer. You can still explore the story without needing to board the boat right away. Since you're new to the series, don’t worry about missing key lore—just enjoy the game as you learn along the way.

P.S.: The game is actually quite solid, though the FPS might feel a bit low for some players. This port could have been even worse.

Enjoy your own pace while exploring. Each major FF title stands alone, though some follow-up entries like Final Fantasy X (X-2) and XIII (XIII-2, XIII-3) are connected. Shared themes such as crystals, chocobos, and a character named Cid who works as an engineer appear, but these mainly serve as nods to previous games.

Thanks for the update. It's comforting to realize I don't need to tackle all the other titles just to grasp this one. Also, it might be typical for this series, but it surprised me that the game provided basic starting equipment while my inventory showed stronger weapons.

Nope, you are free to roam! That's one of the reasons why I think XV is not a very good game. In a story aspect, it doesn't make sense why you're taking so much time doing nonsense sidequests and whatnot when there's supposed to be a huge sense of urgency (y'know, with your father dead and your kingdom at the verge of collapse). Then, when the "world" becomes linear, the story actually goes forward... It isn't that good of a story, but at least things happen. Ah, FFXV. It has some good ideas, but not a good execution. I kinda want my 60 hours back.

It's a strange experience, but I appreciate the road trip aspect of the game. I'm curious about what's coming next. I don't really like the "dreamy boy band" vibe of the characters, but they're better than I expected. Also, can other players join my group?

You'll meet some individuals who will assist you during the journey, but only those you initially connected with remain as core members.
