Your C drive and D drive icons look identical, and neither can be changed. This might be due to system updates, malware, or recently installed software. I checked the Microsoft Forum, but no one replied the next day. You may want to try a fresh installation or run a virus scan to rule out infections.

it was another version, mostly the same icon but with the Windows logo instead. i wasn’t sure why i wanted to switch them—it just hurt my eyes and it looked normal the day before. i’m curious about the reason behind the change and how to revert it back to the original icon.

The small window icon is no longer visible. Consider following method 2 from the guide at https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/65...hange.html. It remains useful even for Windows 7. Have you rebooted Windows yet? If not, try that first.
