I recently purchased a new Gigabyte Z790 Gaming X AX motherboard with two M.2 heatsinks. I've been attempting to remove them for more than an hour and a half, using various tools—five screwdrivers, including one designed for M.2 screws, pliers, and the rubber band method—but nothing has worked. I’m wondering if there’s something missing or if the issue isn’t just with the screws.

Select a driver with a rounded grip, ensuring it seats snugly on the screw. Apply firm force and perform a swift left rotation. It should release easily.

use a small piece of paper to cover the screw, then insert the Philips screwdriver and turn it counterclockwise. This method works when the screw head is stripped.

The note typically functions well. It seems the instructions might be too complicated—press firmly on the board, then twist it tightly. The right tools are essential. I’m using an IFixit Pro kit.

We combined the two approaches successfully. It required a larger grip, pressing firmly on the board with precise force. I don’t understand the previous failure, but thanks!

I work with a thick handle (~2 inch diameter) #1 or #2 Phillips. And definitely a lot of pressure. Good that it turned out okay.
