During my use of inspect in the game, all the knives appeared identical, and there was no indication of their names. I believe the Steam Marketplace update changed that. The image gives a less vibrant look, appearing only about 20% red in the game.

I don't agree. Skins increase my chances of picking certain weapons, which helps me win—stock AWP looks bad, so I avoid it, same with the AK. I got skins for both, which made me use them more. It's not a scam like some in-app purchases; you can also trade and get all your skins for free.
