I'm looking at a Gigabyte B450 motherboard with a Ryzen 3 3200G APU running Zen+. I'm thinking about switching to a 5600X and need the BIOS updated. When AMD first mentioned these updates, they said they'd be one-way—old processors wouldn't get support anymore. Have anyone actually done this Gigabyte BIOS upgrade? Did it make your 3200G or similar Zen/Zen+ chip unworkable?
This occurs because the BIOS lacks sufficient room to save Agesa codes for every four generations of Ryzen chips. The system isn't strictly linear—you can restore the original BIOS from the factory setting and then proceed with a flash update. The processor compatible with all BIOS revision updates on AM4 boards is the Ryzen Athlon 200ge.
It depends on the mobo manufacturer, if they have enough space in the bios, they would keep the support for previous CPUs. I don't see any mention of dropping support in the bios changelog at all: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B45...support-dl
