Planning a system upgrade and this deal for a b450 tomahawk just popped up on marketplace. Currently running a 4790 with a biostar b85z5 hifi. Getting the parts piecemeal but this would lock in a am4 build which i think makes a lot of sense considering my budget isn't all that high to begin with (about 300 usd). Just wanna know if the board is alright and if there's no issues with am4. Another worry was maybe wait to see price drops in july but this just popped upout of nowhere. Also not in a first world country so would have to import alternatives and the prices on that are not pretty (About 12% tax + shipping - would estimate about 40 to 50 usd) Sorry for the rambling
I agree with everything RONO says and would also recommend keeping an eye on the used market for something like a 5600X. I would not recommend buying new unless there is *nothing* in you area
which country are you in? where exactly are you purchasing the board? for affordable used CPUs check out the 3100/3300x and 3600(x), new models aren't advised unless it's the only option for RAM, then consider buying a generic 3200c16/3600c18 kit. new isn't recommended unless you really need it. if you find people selling used 2133-2666 bare PCBs on forums or similar sites, it could be a smart way to save money and boost performance slightly—running at 3800-4000 is ideal. 2133 is usually very budget-friendly and comes with 4Gb I/O; Samsung and Hynix offer good options, especially models with 4000+ capability, except for the Samsung 4GbT die. so go with 2133 for both 4GB and 8GB sticks if you can.
