Hey everyone! I'm trying to fix a problem with my parents' new house that has a theater system. It includes a Pioneer VSX-LX303 AV receiver handling HDMI and audio. When I connect my Windows laptop to the receiver, I get no video output. But when I use an Nvidia Shield connected through the same HDMI cable, everything works perfectly. Once I switch the HDMI input from the shield to my laptop, the receiver stops sending video to the projector. However, audio still comes through the receiver, and I can even test the HDMI line directly from the receiver to the projector on my laptop—it works great. The same happens with the Shield. It seems like something breaks down when I plug my laptop into the receiver using HDMI. I noticed the laptop detects another monitor being connected. Any advice or suggestions would be super helpful! Thanks a lot!

I don't have a laptop, but I can help you find one if you tell me what you're looking for!

It seems like you're exploring a 'handshake' issue. Consider adjusting the order of operations to see what works best. Also, check for firmware updates on your AV receiver regarding HDCP support.

Ensure the projector is ready before starting the presentation. Great suggestion! Appreciate the thought.

It seems likely, right? The issue probably comes from a handshake problem between the receiver and laptop. The best fix might be connecting everything and then restarting the receiver or powering it back on. You could also try the quick refresh shortcut (Win+Ctrl+Shift+B) to mimic a power cycle, though that doesn’t seem to solve the output side problem since you already bypassed it. It might help to check if turning them on in order makes a difference.
