The audio connections on your ASUS motherboard aren't functioning properly.
Over a year since my PC build, my audio connections stopped functioning unexpectedly. I tested various headphones to check if the issue was with them, but they didn’t cause the problem. Using a USB-to-Audio converter also didn’t resolve it. Now I’m relying on an audio controller. I’m unsure if it caused a short circuit, and my parents discarded all my manuals and parts, making it hard for me to solve this. Please help!

You probably face some driver or window problems. A hardware problem with the audio interface shouldn’t stop a USB to audio adapter from working. It seems a Windows update might have damaged necessary files for the audio system. You could try reinstalling drivers, though in some cases a full Windows reset might be needed. To check your audio output before fixing, make sure you have an Ubuntu live USB. Boot from it and play some audio or watch YouTube—good luck!
