I experienced issues with my motherboard after installing a CPU for a contact frame. Despite initial satisfaction, the Intel LAN device disappeared from Device Manager after five months. No visible damage was found, and attempts to fix it—checking pressure, resetting BIOS, updating firmware, or using netsh winsock reset—proved ineffective. The BIOS settings still show the LAN adapter enabled, but network configuration tools failed with an error about missing device. I considered hardware faults since it worked previously. I also looked into a CMOS battery replacement, thinking it might resolve the problem, though I’m unsure if that’s the correct approach.

I received a message suggesting trying Ubuntu on a live USB. I'm not sure how, but I plan to look into it this weekend.

The Ubuntu live USB didn't function properly. Resetting the CMOS battery helped, but extra steps were needed afterward. After removing the battery, the CMOS shorted, and then turning off the PSU resolved the issue, allowing everything to work correctly.

I believed I resolved the issue, but the adapter is now shutting off unpredictably...
