Hi all,
My ASUS X99-A 3.1 Motherboard isn't letting me keep overclocking my Intel i7 5820K to 3.6GHz, even after trying everything. My system is built for stable performance and has already crashed under the pressure, so I need to turn it off. I've never set it to that frequency before and checked all obvious solutions in the UEFI BIOS. I searched online with various descriptions and still think I'm unique in this situation. Am I overlooking something? Is there a more advanced way to fix this? Thanks!

3.6Ghz is the maximum turbo speed for 5820k, I've experienced it myself. The 3.3Ghz serves as the base clock for all-core tasks. When under lighter loads or with fewer cores, the CPU automatically increases to 3.6Ghz by design. It's also conceivable that the default UEFI configuration is setting all cores to this speed. This should not be the cause of your problem, since these CPUs usually operate efficiently between 4.3 and 4.6Ghz when intentionally overclocked. 3.6Ghz all-core is likely too low unless thermal issues are present. What exactly is going wrong?
