The Asus router experiences Wi-Fi speeds dropping to 0.01mbps occasionally.
Hi everyone, I just bought two Asus AX92U routers. I’m currently using 900 Mbps internet. One router is connected straight to the ONT and works fine for a while, but after a day the Wi-Fi speeds on all devices drop to almost nothing—websites fail to load and YouTube videos won’t play. Ethernet, on the other hand, is solid and has never had problems. Because I have two units, I’ve set one aside for AI Mesh to create a bigger network area. It doesn’t matter which router a device connects to; sometimes you can see it’s using the AI Mesh node instead. Usually, when connected to 5 GHz, speeds stay between 200-300 Mbps, but they drop back down to 0.01 Mbps after speed tests and sometimes recover if the internet stays off for a while. I’ve also tried connecting the two routers via Ethernet, but the same issue persists. Most of my household uses only 2.4 GHz devices—just smart home gadgets on that band. Every phone, laptop, tablet, or iPad is on 5 GHz, and I’ve checked all of them. I’ve gone through several troubleshooting steps: both routers are updated to the latest firmware, I’ve tested with just one router, even left them idle for a few hours. Switching between the routers and the AI Mesh node still causes random drops to 0.01 Mbps. My current fix is using the original ISP router for the ONT and setting one of my Asus routers as an access point in my room, where my main computer is connected. This setup works better, though my download speeds are still lower than with the Asus units. Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? The router is placed in a well-ventilated area, usually between 18-25°C, mounted on a metal shelf. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
I would perform a full reset on both devices; there’s likely a slot for inserting a pen or paperclip to restore settings. After returning to the default state, verify you have the most recent firmware: https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/AiMes...Desk_BIOS/. As of now, the current version is v3.0.0.4.384.7977. Check if this fixes your problem, then reply again.
I have reset both devices to factory settings and ensured they’re running the newest firmware. I didn’t realize this was needed, but after a day it still had the same problem.
