Hello everyone, I just upgraded my computer's CPU, cooler, and motherboard. While looking into the price of my old motherboard, I noticed it was selling for around $1200 AUD (about $900 USD). That surprised me since I only purchased the desktop two years ago for $800. I’m wondering why a 5-year-old board is so expensive. Is this pricing accurate? Also, what do you think I should get if I sell my old motherboard, CPU, and cooler? Any advice would be really helpful. Thanks!

They might not be available right now, but check eBay for similar listings at auction. Out-of-production boards usually fetch a good price if they have a popular chipset, like a Z platform or X99. Don’t assume a high value—compare current sales to get an accurate idea, or consider auctioning it yourself to see the result.

It's a premium motherboard with solid processor options. Perhaps the CHIA coin mining trend played a role. The design includes 11 SATA ports and 5 PCI-E X16 slots (though my vision might be off), allowing for additional storage controllers. It seems likely to appeal to users interested in NAS, storage servers, or Chia storage, though it probably isn't worth a thousand dollars.

It seems likely a Chia-based scalping strategy is involved. As noted, verify prices for any sold items—there are often eBay sellers offering unusually high prices just in case someone decides to purchase.

Great, thanks for your input. I wasn’t anticipating the price, but I understand what buyers are offering.
