Well, the whole setup hasn't functioned smoothly together. My last build was installed on the wall, using a full ATX motherboard and a long PCIe cable. It performed perfectly for about 1½ years. The power supply is 750W, which should be sufficient for the 3070, though I might be wrong. My current system combines new and reused components from the previous build. In my specifications, I've marked which parts are reused and which are new. Even though the PSU was recently replaced under an RMA, I'm pretty confident it's not the issue—because the 2070 still needs power and it works just fine.
750 is acceptable as long as it meets at least a bronze certification. The 2070 model typically draws around 175 watts max, while the 3070 can handle about 220 watts. It’s possible, though unlikely. It’s worth noting. How many drives or components are you using? I’ve seen good 750 watt PSUs and some lower-quality ones.
It's definitely worth noting. Maybe I should check if my 2 x 6+2pin to 8pin connector is the issue. I'll let you know once I have my multimeter. For my setup, I only have one 250GB SSD, and I've also tried disconnecting the pump for quick tests.
I examined my powerlines for any mismatches with my other GPUs. I’m using an adapter that came with the PSU, converting 2 x 8 pins to 1 x 12 pin. This is the only variation from my previous setups. I’ve just ordered a new cable to test if it’s the adapter that’s the issue. I also found an article suggesting such adapters are often faulty, and my 3070 hasn’t used it either. When it was mounted on the wall, I used an extender from Cablemods (which I discarded).
Nicehash is designed for mining, so it will extract the full power from your card. It’s essentially done now because BTC switched to Proof of Stake. Just a small bend in the cable will cause it to try again, but it won’t succeed. Consider using a different cable first, as you suggested, to avoid spending on an overly complex setup.
I received a new power cable, but it didn't fix the issue. I'm feeling like I'm running out of tests. Tonight I plan to take apart my PC and try without the Riser. There aren't many other tests I can do that don't require complete disassembly.
It seems the issue might relate to the CPU or possibly a MOBO-related problem.
Hi, your friend was working on the same build today. He eliminated the possibility that the newest BIOS for the motherboard lacked a setting for the riser cable. He’s using BIOS Version F17, and he shared the screenshot (the adjustment he made helped it function). Let me know if this assists you.
I couldn't run the Windows installer on my PC, but I managed to set up Windows 10 on the M.2 drive after a lot of testing. Eventually, it booted up successfully. However, when drivers are installed via Windows, the system crashes and displays a black screen. What changed from before is that it only boots properly if the CSM is enabled and it enters recovery mode.
