Motherboard: Asus x470 Prime Pro (currently using latest 6042 BIOS version). RAM: 32GB (8x4) Corsair Vengeance LPX @3000 CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X (cooled by Deepcool Gammaxx GT). GPU: Zotac 3070 PSU: EVGA 80+ Gold 650W SSD: Western Digital 500GB WD Blue / Crucial MX500 CPU tends to run warmer than my previous 2600X, though it doesn’t trigger throttling (typically 60-80°C). Monitor: ASUS VG248QE 1080P 144Hz (CableMatters VESA certified DP cable). Recently upgraded my rig with a Ryzen 5 5600X and Zotac 3070. Since then, anti-aliasing fails in all games I play at 1080P. I’ve tried every possible fix except swapping CPU or PSU, as neither has been available. I switched monitors to TVs just to test if the issue changed. I can adjust from no effect up to MSAA with no visible impact. I’ve compared everything on and off, but results remain consistent. The only partial success is TSAA in Rust, though even then screen tearing occurs when viewing objects with vertical lines (like shipping containers or sheet metal). I’ve checked forums extensively for similar problems—no solutions found. Could this be a power or hardware fault? I’ve tested other RAM kits, updated BIOS, reinstalled Windows 11, and adjusted settings. If you have any insight, please join me at Christmas dinner.
AA doesn't fix tearing issues. It mainly impacts sharp edges. The simplest AA method upscales the image then reduces it slightly. Subpixel blending handles the rest. Tearing can be addressed with adaptive sync options such as FreeSync or G-Sync, plus techniques like V-Sync or Fast Sync.
Nvidia has been consistently releasing updates, trying to address various driver problems before Jensen becomes aware of them. So far, Jensen hasn't seen any major issues. The AA is consistently buggy across all my 3070 setups, even at 1080p. DLAA and TAA function adequately, but MSAA or FXAA alone isn't sufficient. I'm now considering G9 Neo as a potential solution. Over the past five months, all Nvidia drivers have had numerous problems, especially with MSAA being unreliable in many AAA titles I've played recently.
The problem goes beyond just the screen tearing; it’s much more severe than expected, particularly at 144Hz. It doesn’t happen uniformly across the whole display as one would anticipate with screen tearing, but only on specific objects rendered in-game. Plus, anti-aliasing isn’t functioning properly in any format.
Always use the compatible or working driver. The newest version isn't always the best choice. Stick with the one that fits your system properly.
