Just to confirm, I'm trying to verify my setup. I've been overclocking my R9 380 for improved gaming performance using MSI Afterburner. When not in use or gaming, the GPU and memory remain overclocked but show no activity. Resetting to default settings restores normal operation, and idle clocks return to 300MHz for the GPU and 150MHz for memory. I've also attempted to set up profiles for 2D and 3D in MSI AB, but they aren't functioning properly—especially when switching between desktop and game mode. The issue persists even after closing games. What should I do?

You can refer to this solution later. If anyone faces the same issue with MSI afterburner, make sure AMD powerplay is enabled in the afterburner settings, as this allows your GPU to downclock during idle times. I have tested it fully and it works perfectly.

Could the update for your GPU have been downloaded and installed? Or perhaps there’s an issue with your operating system? Start by checking the basics. If needed, remove the GPU drivers using Diplay Driver Uninstaller (DDU), then reinstall the latest working driver you remember. Just to be sure, the 380 isn’t a strong overclocker, so the problem might lie in pushing it too far. I’d appreciate a simpler solution, but following these steps should resolve it.

I wanted to share my solution for a common issue with MSI Afterburner. If AMD powerplay is not enabled in your afterburner settings, you should turn it on so your GPU can downclock during idle times. I tested this and everything worked perfectly.
