I own a 3400G in a Gigabyte Aorus Pro WiFi I (ITX). Initially I had the CPU and was moving toward a dedicated GPU. I acquired a 2060 KO and am questioning if the APU is limiting its performance. According to my research so far, the 3400G supports 24 lanes, with 4 assigned to the chipset and another 4 to the GPU portion of the APU, leaving 16 lanes for a dedicated GPU. I also have an M.2 slot on the motherboard and three SATA drives. The calculations seem correct based on that arrangement. Regarding NVMe, does it draw lanes directly from the CPU or is it managed through the chipset? The SSD lanes follow the chipset allocation. If NVMe uses CPU lanes, would that reduce the available lanes for the GPU? GamersNexus tested reducing GPU lanes from 16 to 8 and found no significant effect on gaming performance. I’m experimenting with Blender and wondering if this affects rendering speed noticeably. If it does, upgrading to a 2700x might be a budget-friendly option to increase cores and free up lanes.

NVMe lanes cannot be assigned to the GPU or other PCIe devices, and attempting a triple-graphics setup would fail because the NVMe and chipset lanes are restricted from being used for graphics.

The 3400G accommodates several M.2 drives. One will link to the CPU lanes while another connects to the chipset. Are you utilizing just the two SSDs and the Wi-Fi card? If your Wi-Fi card is in the top PCIe slot, it will connect to the CPU and the second M.2 slot to the chipset. When it's in a secondary PCIe slot, it goes to the chipset as well.
