I purchased an Alienware m18x R2 with a modified BIOS and haven’t managed to get it to recognize any boot device besides an mSATA to USB connection. It worked for loading Windows 10 through that path, but I’m not planning to run Windows that way. I’ve tried all sorts of solutions—switching to different mSATA drives, other SSDs, placing the SSD in a HDD/optical drive case, re-flashing the BIOS. It still detects the graphics card, CPU, RAM, and optical drive, but no direct boot device appears on the motherboard. Any suggestions would be appreciated, because I’ve exhausted my options. Thanks.

What would you consider the cost of buying a non-modified motherboard? If I had to assume something was altered affecting the storage controller.
