Similar to the video and Linus’s invention, the threadripper chiller is now in a “broken” state. I’ve tried understanding the technical reasons before attempting any repairs. It won’t keep running—it powers up but then shuts off immediately. Since it’s digital, the area around the computer components gets extremely hot. My thought is that the machine was damaged from rain, so removing the computer and connecting it directly to a switch should fix the problem. That’s not my main concern though; here’s a bit of clarification. I’m hoping to use this AC for cooling an old Dell server and three desktops at once. Two of the desktops are already built, and I’m working on the third while handling other tasks. Would it be safe to place the server on wooden surfaces? It’s not perfect safety, but since the server is only about 15 feet away, I could reach it quickly if something goes wrong—with a fire extinguisher nearby. My plan was to store the server on two nightstands under a kitchen table, which holds my vegetables. The heat from the server would actually help the plants grow, avoiding waste heat. Still, I’m curious: is it safe to run the server that way? What steps can I take to prevent a fire if something goes wrong?
