I bought a 5700 XT several years back just for a song, as a temporary card. It’s stuck with me for the near future. I really want to play BG3 but can’t. Here are the details: CPU: R5 7600 GPU: Sapphire Nitro 5700 XT Rev 1.0 PSU: Corsair 850W RMe RAM: 2x16GB 6000MHz CL30 OS: Windows 11 This problem shows up on a Haswell system with Windows 10/11 and a different power supply. The issues are limited to certain games, especially BG3 being particularly troublesome for me. Symptoms include: 1. Sudden crash to green or black screen, static sounds like 80s arcade effects, needing to hold the power button during shutdown and restart. Games can run for hours without problems (BG3) before crashing again. Sometimes it restarts and works for a while (like in Skyrim). 2. Crash with static image and looping audio, also needs a hard reboot. 3. Occasionally driver errors appear after crashes, requiring a full reinstall. 4. Soft crashes to the desktop, once in CS2 and sometimes in Delta Force—maybe unrelated. I’ve tried: reinstalling Windows, using older community drivers, studio drivers, installing barebones drivers without AMD Adrenalin, removing RAM to JEDEC speeds, and lowering core and memory clocks. I’m running out of options. I think there might be a hardware problem or that AMD hasn’t fully resolved the 5700 XT through drivers.

I haven't used an AMD GPU before, so I'm just sharing some basics. Have you looked at the temperatures? Check the average die temperature, hotspot, and VRAM temp. (You can use HWiNFO64 for this—don’t know if it shows all three.) If you're unsure about the temps, consider disassembling the GPU and repainting or checking the pads for damage.

I've observed that AMD crash defender can trigger crashes, as seen in the Windows Event Viewer. You might disable it. It seems Windows Security occasionally blocks the AMD driver—check it in Windows Security and allow it if needed. Recent updates from September 2025 have fixed these issues, and AMD recommends using driver version 25.12.1.

Have you attempted to operate it using its standard factory configurations? This method helps confirm whether the issue lies with the card or your adjustments. Spend a minimum of 30 minutes to let it settle and observe if the challenges persist.
