Hello,
I’m planning to switch my rig to a DDR5/AM5 configuration and will retain the existing GPU (RX580) and power supply (a 3-year-old 550W Seasonic Focus 80+ Gold). The previous CPU had a TDP of 65W, and I won’t be overclocking.
I’ve tried several calculators but received mixed advice—some say the PSU is enough, others recommend going up to 650W.
Clearly, more is better, but is this upgrade really needed here?
For reference, here’s a full new rig setup:

RX 580 consumes 185W, R7 7700X runs at 102W with turbo up to 148W, making two together around 335W. Adding the rest of the system at about 100W would push the total to roughly 440W. Even without CPU/GPU overclocking, your 550W Seasonic unit should easily handle the upgraded setup. A higher power supply would be beneficial, particularly after overclocking, but it's not essential.

A higher PSU would be beneficial, particularly after optimizing the CPU and GPU, but it isn't strictly necessary.
