autonegotiation applies only to pcie lane widths (x1/x2/x4/x8/x16)
if signal integrity problems occur, it doesn’t retry with another waveform or different pcie version – this means the issue at x1 is likely no device present
since the bios update resolved it, there was a problem reading the GPU ooprom (vbios)
