I recently discovered the 2008 Mac Pro your dad used. I was curious about its performance and style. But he had taken the original hard drives, replaced them, and now we’re left with the original drive. We’ve located it and experimented with another one, but it won’t boot from the 16GB USB we used for installing MacOS. We attempted to install on the first drive, then tried using it as a bootable installer on the second, but it just stays on a blank screen. Is there something missing or something we’re not doing correctly?

Verify you're connecting via the USB with the installer installed. You'll need to enter a specific key combination to access the boot menu, then choose the USB drive. It doesn't work automatically. Check all ports and different USB devices. Where did you locate this MacOS installation file?

I’m using the option key and selecting USB as the boot drive, but the screen remains white. I downloaded the Mac OS image from the Apple site and used their instructions to make a bootable USB.

I’d consider using different USB ports and possibly alternative drives. A $5 install DVD from eBay could work too. However, installing vanilla OS X isn’t ideal—either hack it for a newer OS X version or run Linux for server use.

You’re looking for ways to upgrade your system by installing a newer operating system. Have you explored booting from a USB drive or using a different storage device? Also, consider checking if your motherboard supports the latest OS version and whether firmware updates are available.

The device will be used for building a hackintosh. There are many helpful tutorials available, though I can't share links or provide assistance due to restrictions.

I just wanted to check how it performs and use it for browsing the internet. Being a low-income high school student, getting it to work is my main goal.
