I was dissatisfied with the Win 7 home premium version—it consumes a lot of RAM. I spent $100 on the original copy, but now I’m glad I can upgrade to Win 10 completely for free.
You mentioned not being fond of Windows 7—are you certain you want to switch to Windows 10?
I don't think Windows 10 is particularly low in resource usage.
I think Windows 8 and 8.1 consumed fewer resources compared to Windows 7. It's not a huge difference, but it is noticeable. Windows 7 performed better than Vista in terms of resource usage. Windows 10 was designed to work efficiently on low-powered tablets, aiming to minimize resource consumption. I assume it will be even more efficient than Windows 7.
I've been told it works better with fewer resources, though it doesn't necessarily mean it consumes less overall. You might want to check some technical reports or studies for more details.
Currently not possible but future potential exists. You can explore Google, Bing, Yahoo or any search engine you prefer. Claiming it's more efficient doesn't justify the same resource usage. Being more efficient means getting more out of what you have—either doing more tasks with the same inputs or accomplishing the same goals with fewer resources. In this context, Windows 8 offers little improvement over Windows 7, so if it's more efficient, it should consume less power.
Windows 8 and 8.1 require fewer system resources. The operating system has seen significant improvements, and I anticipate even greater efficiency in Windows 10 because of its focus on mobile platforms like tablets.
