Two weeks ago, I began noticing these odd lines on my second monitor during gaming sessions. The video displays them green, but also shows variations in black, red, and blue. Initially, I assumed the second monitor was failing, but switching games to it only made the issue visible on my main screen. A driver problem came into consideration, so I performed a full Windows reinstall, which didn’t resolve the issue. I checked the cables—ruling them out as faulty—and ordered a new set, but that also failed. Possibly the connections weren’t properly seated, leading me to disassemble and re-seat everything, cleaning it afterward, yet the problem persisted. My RX 6900 XT, which is about a year old, was returned for an RMA. Two days later, I received a confirmation email stating there were no issues, but they added a €25 testing fee plus shipping. Memtest passed, temperatures were below 70°C during testing, and it seems the USB device might have been disconnected during gameplay, still causing the lines. I’m running out of options. 20230603_102242.mp4

You understand that reinstalling Windows can sometimes leave you with the same drivers, especially if they’re inherently flawed. Running into such versions causes problems, so loading older drivers might help resolve the issue. If you remove Windows and then reinstall the same problematic driver after the reset, you could still face difficulties. I’d suggest uninstalling your current driver and trying a different one to check if the problem lies with that specific version.

Switching outputs changes how signals are sent to the display. If you connect via HDMI, try a different port or use DisplayPort. Reversing screen assignments in Windows swaps primary and secondary roles; the error follows accordingly.

I realized the issue early on. I attempted to use older drivers but Windows 10 was more reliable. I opted for a clean reinstall without internet access so I could pick what to install, but the Windows 11 setup caused problems. I managed to get all pre-2023 drivers in place and installed GOG’s Witcher 3 version, though the line issue continued. Thanks for your help. I also experimented with different cables, HDMI inputs, and monitor settings, but the problem persisted.

Could the issue arise from stretching the screen over both monitors? The fact that it remains consistent across installations suggests a software or configuration problem rather than a physical one.

No, I'm not using Freesync or G-Sync.

Thanks once more for the feedback! AMD-eyeinfinity worked well for creating a single large display, and I didn’t notice any lines on my screens. I then attempted to turn it off and run it in windowed mode across multiple monitors, but I still saw lines appearing on both displays, though they were hidden behind the windowed interface. Later, I tried running two games simultaneously—Witcher 3 in full screen on one monitor and Minecraft in windowed mode on the other. Again, the lines showed up under the Minecraft window. It looks like 3D apps can interfere with 2D ones. Usually it doesn’t work this way, but adjusting the settings didn’t resolve the issue. Appreciate the tip!

This likely involves a driver problem. Consider removing the drivers using DDU and installing an older version, perhaps from the end of last year. Recent updates can sometimes trigger issues with older hardware.
