Haven't forgotten about this, but in other testing on the system I hit a potential roadblock. While the bios allows me to select how many cores I want, it doesn't let me choose where. So I can only run 2+2, not 4+0. There's still one chance. I'm having a fight with Ryzen Master and that might be a way to implement it. Otherwise my only remaining option will be to move the CPU to my B450 system, but I'd rather not do that if I can avoid it.
This testing will likely never be completed. I decided to begin today, but the system is failing shortly after launching in Windows. It seems connected to changes I made earlier, though restoring BIOS settings hasn't stopped it. Could Ryzen Master be attempting to configure something during boot that's triggering the issue? If this continues, I might have to stop until a more stable version is available.
I began to see improvement; the test system now feels quite stable. Some settings in Ryzen Master were causing issues, so I had to switch it back quickly before it crashed. Once that was fixed, everything seemed okay. Moving on to the SOTTR demo benchmark... it’s really challenging. I attempted 1080p exclusive fullscreen high, but the FPS fluctuated between 15 and 40. It didn’t matter how I adjusted the quality settings. I confirmed VSync was off and there were no unusual limits. The only change that helped was picking a resolution other than 1080p—up to 1200p. In the test, FPS reached about 85. I tried restarting, but it still didn’t help. The problem appears to be GPU limitations at higher resolutions. If it worked smoothly at 1080p high, then 1080p low might be better. Alternatively, exploring lower resolutions could give the CPU more work.
