I'm just starting out with overclocking and wanted some guidance. I aim to maximize my Athlon 2 X4 640 but I'm having trouble finding specific instructions on AMD's website. I have access to a menu in my BIOS, but I'm unsure about the settings. I'm using an ASUS M5A78L-M LX V2 with 4GB RAM and a GTX 550 Ti (the exact model ID is unclear).

You only need BIOS settings for CPU multiplier and Vcore voltage. Gradually increase the multiplier and voltage, using smaller steps if needed. Continuously monitor temperatures and stability—AOD includes a stability test. Ensure your cooling solution is sufficient; stock coolers may not be enough. Apply AOD (AMD overdrive) to track temperatures and other important data. Avoid using it for overclocking.

It often displays inaccurate information about AMD processors and platforms. AOD remains the better option in such cases. You may utilize both depending on your needs.

You can check if it's overclocked by looking at the system information in the BIOS or through the motherboard's monitoring tools. It often displays the clock speed during startup or when the system boots.
