I've read some guides about how to overclock a CPU but I still have questions. For checking if it gets too hot, when using Prime 29.8 or higher, I should turn off AVX and AVX2 and pick a fast FFT option. I'm staying under 80 degrees for 15 minutes. When testing if the chip breaks down over time, people say to run the blend test for eight hours. Do I still need to disable AVX and AVX2? You can also run a small FFT test for eight hours as another check. Should I turn off those features for this test too? Because if I don't, the heat gets way higher than during my first test and the system crashes right away. I think that's not good and I would have to change the voltage or CPU speed. On stock settings, I never get errors with small FFT and AVX/AVX2 turned on. Is it okay to use Prime 26.6 for both checking heat and testing stability if my computer has an i5-6600k?
I always use OCCT because there is nothing to click on except the green button in the program. I never want to run this for more than thirty minutes. The test stops right away if a core hits eighty-five degrees Celsius. It also uses eighty percent of your RAM or ninety percent of your SSD, which causes high stress too.
I always use OCCT because there is no need to turn things on and off manually. I just click one button in the program. Running the test longer than thirty minutes isn't necessary since the system stops automatically if a core gets too hot (around 85C). It also uses about eighty percent of your memory or ninety, so it creates more stress for you too.
