I reside in an area with unreliable internet. My monthly cost is $150 for 8 Mbps, which is lower than the usual $200. There have been instances where the connection would disconnect more than once each hour. In March, they installed a pole in my yard to improve the signal from the cell tower. The new setup uses an antenna system on both the tower and my home, rather than cellular data. After this change, I experienced significantly faster speeds and fewer interruptions. However, in March it appears they realized my connection was performing better than the rate I paid for, so they capped it at 8 Mbps. Interestingly, speedtest.net still reports speeds of 30-40 Mbps, but when I download or use fast.com, I rarely reach even 8 Mbps. I’m curious if my ISP is configured to bypass throttling on speedtest.net while throttling other traffic, and if so, how I can ensure all my data avoids that limitation. If not, I just need to understand why speedtest.net gives such inaccurate readings for me. Around the time I noticed the drop in speed (screenshot from Google router app), what my current speeds are on speedtest.net, and what download speeds appear on fast.com. Example of download speeds I get on Steam. What plan am I on?
