Running tests on my R9 5900x have shown temperatures rising noticeably—averaging 4.6ghz at 80°C under heavy load and 45–50°C when idle. I recently replaced the cooler about a year ago, applied fresh paste, and felt it was too soon for improvement. Considering the current ambient temperature of around 12°C (possibly closer to 18°C indoors), it seems normal or just needs another paste change. The 5900x can be quite bothersome to cool because the individual CCDs inside aren't always well-binned. This might vary a bit based on the cooler you're using.

Ryzen shows hotspot behavior during idle, boosting cores to higher clock speeds under load. At 47°C with 22°C ambient, the 7950X3d runs at 47°C despite being in 47°C mode, while the older 5900X stayed cooler at 40°C. It works well with a 360mm AIO cooler, especially the Arctic LF3 model.

I faced the same issue too. I’m not sure why those 5900x values are problematic, even though a 5800x performs much better at idle temperatures. As long as you’re not sacrificing performance because the temperature spikes too high, you should be okay! Also, did you verify that the -30 optimization on all cores was set correctly? If yes, you have a solid chip. Otherwise, you might encounter some instability unexpectedly.
