Temperatures for 3950X
Hey everyone, I recently installed a new setup and am wondering if the temperatures I'm observing on my 3950X are unusually high or just typical for this model. I've heard the case I'm using tends to stay warm, even when I run Prime95 without the side panel and fans at maximum speed. Despite cleaning everything, applying new thermal paste (starting with IC Diamond then switching to Noctua's included stuff), and adding two 140mm Noctua intake fans, my CPU still reaches around 95°C. I've also updated all the firmware and software, run MSI Dragon Center in custom mode for fan control, enabled XMP profiles, and organized all cables neatly to avoid airflow blockage. Any suggestions or should this be normal for an air-cooled 3950X? Thanks!
Temperatures will rise significantly during the all-core overclock, especially with a modest cooler. The 1.4 Volts on air setting is quite high for this setup.
Wow! It seems I accidentally turned on Over Clocking beyond just the RAM XMP profile. Could it be because I used a custom profile in Dragon Center? I didn’t adjust the CPU frequency settings at all—only changed the fan speeds. I’ve attached a screenshot of the current CPU frequency settings from Dragon Center. It looks like the CPU is trying to boost itself via Precision Boost?
Restart and verify BIOS settings, locate the overclocking option on the left side, then turn off all adjustments. Refer to the user manual for standard configurations. Typically, during maximum load you’ll see speeds ranging from 3.1 to 3.6 GHz based on temperature (Source: Anandtech.com).
