Temperature remained stable after reapplying thermal paste
I recently replaced the thermal paste, and during the bf5 game I noticed the CPU reaching 80-82°C while power usage was at 142W. After applying the new paste, the temperature dropped but didn’t change much. Now it’s around 75-76°C at the same wattage. Why is the drop so small? Is the CPU making better contact with the cooler? What do you think? My system has an Intel Core i7 11700f with power limits turned off, a 16GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM, and a DeepCool Assassin 3 cooler. Sorry for the unclear English—I’m still learning!
That's a notable temperature shift from just adjusting the paste. You were anticipating a much larger change, around 80-82°C to 75°C.
It was acceptable... Appreciate the update. However, the CPUID power max AvX test revealed just a 3 to 2 difference. Previously it was 87°C at 192W, now it's 84. I was anticipating a 10°C gap.
This shows a strong performance from the previous paste application. It indicates that even with minor adjustments, the current setup remains effective for heat transfer under maximum load conditions.
I would not expect any change at all, unless the old paste was sub-par or no longer in working condition. Unless temps are suddenly much higher than they used to be (given the same workload), there's no reason to suspect your current paste is no longer up to the task. Repasting does not magically lower temperatures, it only helps if the old paste is bad in some way. Either bad quality, badly applied or in bad condition.
